Mazda Celebrates the MX-5's 35th Anniversary with a Special Edition

The fact that a car can remain on the market for 35 consecutive years without a production interruption is an achievement in itself, but it’s even more impressive when it’s a sports car. Such is the case with the Mazda MX-5, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year.

To mark the occasion, the Japanese automaker has unveiled a 35th Anniversary Edition that is sure to delight fans of the model and collectors alike. As a testament to its unique appeal, Mazda chose to showcase this latest version of its iconic roadster at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

It’s All in the Configuration

Mazda opted for a stunning Artisan Red Metallic exterior with a beige interior and a soft retractable hardtop for the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition, which is only available in this specific configuration. While some might criticize this limitation, I believe it’s the right choice as it makes the car even more special and easy to identify—even for those less familiar with the model.

The 35th Anniversary Edition sits at the top of the 2025 MX-5 lineup with a starting price of $43,700. Interestingly, this ultimate version of the Japanese sports car is exclusively offered with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The car also features gorgeous 17-inch silver wheels, although black wheels are available for an additional $1,659.

Interior Details

Inside, subtle red accents can be found throughout, particularly on the trim around the air vents. The headrests are embroidered with a 35th Anniversary logo, adding a touch of exclusivity. The rest of the cabin boasts a full suite of standard features, including an 8.8-inch display and a Bose sound system.

A Future Collectible

The Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is undoubtedly a future collector’s item. Production will be limited to just 230 units for Canada. However, the model will be even rarer in the U.S., where only 300 units will be available—despite the American market being about ten times larger than Canada’s.
